Feeling tired

Weight: 87.4kg

Out last night with Lucille. And I also have a bad habit of reading in bed for an hour. Result, asleep at 1am. Awoken by Julia at 5:50am. Oh joy. Tonight I have a big dinner at Berry Brother's, celebrating a colleague's 25th anniversary of working in finance. It will likely be a big night.

Hopefully, I'll get a chance to do a little exercise this afternoon. Some light cross training at the gym would be perfect.

Fartleks round Green Park

Distance: 5.7km
Time: about 35 minutes

Very high intensity run walk session with Guy. Did three circuits of the park, roughly running for 200-250 yards (more than 75% intensity), then walking for 75-125 yards. Rinse and repeat. Legs felt like jelly at the end.

The most gratifying part of the session was the speed of recovery (from 80-90% of max heart rate to 60% or so) well within the short walks. The real issue was that my legs simply weren't as strong as I'd like. But - courtesy of fartleks, and just running more - that will change.

Tomorrow I'll have a longer, but low intensity, cross train (probably while listening to the Now Show) at lunch. Friday sees me hooking up with Guy for a 5K around Hyde Park.

Better than I should feel

I went out last night, drinking beer and eating lamb. Not good for my fitness, really. I didn't dare weigh myself this morning. I am also out tonight, tomorrow night and Saturday. There will need to be some serious exercise to work this all out my systems, followed by abstinence next week.

This afternoon, Guy will put me through my paces. Hopefully I'll manage a couple of circuits of St James's Park at high intensity (walk/run).

Idiocy

Just joined a cheap, crowded local gym. The plan is to use it to grab occasional non-outdoor exercise or non-running exercise.

I thought it would take me 10 minutes to join, then I could work up a modest sweat on the cross trainer or bike.

My mistake: it took an hour to join. Then, after joining I wandered to the small, cramped smelly changing room to put my kit on. Whereupon I realised I had left my trainers back in the office.

As I said at the top of this post: Idiocy.

A Bad Night's Sleep

Weight: 85.6kg

Slept very poorly last night. Didn't manage to drift off until past 1am. Then I recieved a phone call at 3.30am or so, from my sister, which I think was a mistake. Then Julia awoke me at 6.15. All in all, a sub-four hour night, not a sub-four hour marathon.

I'm training with Guy tomorrow, and we're bound to work it pretty hard - either a 5k, or a fartlek session - so I'm disinclined to do another good sized run. The combination of tired body and tired mind is not a particularly good one. That said, I'm out tonight, and that means beer and curry, so I need to get some exercise in. I'm thinking of joining a gym so I can cross-train or go on the cycle. Not to do so much as to exhaust me, but just enough to get my metabolism going.

Day One

Weight: 86.1kg
Ran: 7.85km
Time: about 50 minutes

I ran around the top half of Green Park, then a slightly extended cirtuit of Hyde Park, before doing the bottom half of St James's Park. Sprinted the last few hundred yards up the hill at the end.

After a slow start, I felt good in my body. In particular, my cardiovascular didn't feel at all stretched. The hardest - or most annoying - thing was that Nokia Sportstracker wasn't working properly, so I didn't get a realtime distance report. My time too is approximate. Distance worked out later using the excellent gmap pedometer.
